We seek to nurture and support the Meeting’s young people and their families in their spiritual journeys. The First Day School Committee aims to provide resources that enable young people and their families to learn about their own, the Meeting's, and Quakers’ place in God's world and in the stream of Judeo-Christianity, honoring both our Christ-centered and our Universalist heritage and seeking to reach that place where the words come from. We also want to increase awareness of and respect for other religious traditions throughout time. While we focus on First Days for our "school", we hope that some of the resources we provide can be useful throughout the week. The methods devised to carry out this mission may vary from year to year. Nonetheless, the First Day School Committee wishes young people to become aware of the content and practice of basic Quaker principles.
In keeping with the spirit of our Mission statement, we will explore age-appropriate values, traditions and ideas. The lessons will include:
SUNDAY SCHEDULE (except for
first Sunday of the month **)
Children of all ages are always welcome in Meeting for Worship.
Nursery care is available for children under three years of age starting at 10:15.
10:30 to 10:45 AM - CHILDREN ATTEND MEETING FOR WORSHIP
All children ages three and older attend the first 15 minutes of Meeting for
Worship with parents.
10:45 to 12:00 AM- SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
The Sunday School Coordinator will accompany the children from the Meeting
House to their classes in the Friends Center. If children do not attend class
they are expected to stay with their parents.
Parents are welcome to accompany children to classes.
**10:30 AM The first Sunday of the Month
FAMILY WORSHIP
Family Worship takes place on the first Sunday of the month in the Friends Room
in the Friends Center. Everyone is invited to participate in this
intergenerational Meeting for Worship. Please note there are no Sunday School
classes on this Sunday and parents are asked to supervise their children during
this time. Nursery care is available
for babies and toddlers.
TEEN WORSHIP
The first Sunday of the
month junior and senior high school students gather in the far parlor for
worship and discussion. Towards the
spring, teens gather and then join Meeting for Worship in the Meeting House.
